Terms of Use

The terms that apply to using the Disaster Clippy hosted service. Last updated: March 2026.

What this covers

These terms apply to use of the Disaster Clippy hosted website and app at disasterclippy.com and app.disasterclippy.com. They do not apply to the open-source software, which is available under the license in the public repository.

Check the source. Always.

Every answer Disaster Clippy generates includes a citation pointing back to the original source document. That is not a feature we added on top of the product. It is the product. The entire system is designed so that you can read the source yourself, judge whether the answer is right, and act on your own assessment rather than trusting the AI's confidence.

This matters most when the stakes are high. For anything involving safety, medical decisions, structural work, or emergency response: read the cited source. Compare it against other sources you trust. The answer Disaster Clippy gives you is a starting point, not a final word. Trust but verify is not a disclaimer we added at the end. It is how the tool is meant to be used.

What the service is

Disaster Clippy is a search interface over a curated collection of preparedness and resilience knowledge. It is provided as a reference tool, not as professional advice. It is not a substitute for qualified guidance in emergencies, medical situations, structural assessments, or legal matters.

The service is provided as-is. We do not guarantee that answers are complete, current, or free of error. The source citation is your path to verification. Use it.

Accounts

You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You may not share your account or use it to provide the service to others as a product.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service, violate these terms, or place unusual load on shared infrastructure.

Acceptable use

You may use the hosted service for personal, research, and organizational preparedness purposes. You may not use it to scrape content at scale, attempt to extract the underlying collection, probe for vulnerabilities, or circumvent rate limits.

Payments

If a paid tier is available, payment is processed by Stripe. Billing terms will be shown clearly before any charge is made. Refund requests can be submitted to contact@disasterclippy.com.

Open-source software

The Disaster Clippy runtime is open-source software. You are free to clone, run, modify, and distribute it under the terms of its license. These terms of use apply only to the hosted service, not to your own deployment.

Availability

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the hosted service at any time. We will try to give reasonable notice of significant changes where possible.
